Cape Cod Synagogue to participate in 22nd Shabbat Across America with invitation for all non-member Jewish individuals and families to take part at no cost
Cape Cod Jews will join over 70,000 North American Jews in Effort to Revitalize Sabbath Observance
On Friday night, March 9, 2018, members of Cape Cod’s Jewish community will gather in an unparalleled display of Jewish revitalization and Jewish unity. The Cape Cod Synagogue, a Reform Jewish Congregation, will be one of approximately 700 Synagogues across the continent that will simultaneously open their doors to practicing and non-practicing Jews alike, so they may join together to experience and rejoice in a traditional Shabbat service and festive meal during this campaign called Shabbat Across America and Canada.
On a normal monthly family Shabbat evening at Cape Cod Synagogue, held on the 2nd Friday of every month, members of the Synagogue gather together at 5:30pm to share a specially cooked Shabbat dinner together, followed by a fun, inspiring and engaging Shabbat service led by Rabbi David Freelund. This year, Shabbat Across America and Canada aligns with the family Shabbat date taking place on March 9, 2018. The Cape Cod Synagogue is extending a warm welcome to any Jewish individual or Jewish interfaith family who is not currently a member of the Cape Cod Synagogue to take part and attend the enjoyable dinner at no cost, where they will experience friendship and Jewish community, and to join in the wonderful Shabbat service immediately following the dinner.
Shabbat Across America and Canada, established by the National Jewish Outreach Program (NJOP), is designed to introduce a generation of unaffiliated Jews to the beauty and significance of the Jewish Sabbath, and is also the first and only program aimed at uniting Jews across the United States and Canada through one single event. It will take place in every city where there is a Jewish presence – from major Jewish geographical centers such as New York, Los Angeles and Toronto, to cities with smaller Jewish populations such as Hyannis on Cape Cod.
